On March 13, 2020, I did a nutrition and cooking presentation for a group of 3rd graders at one of my favorite gardens, Lewis Rowe Elementary.  I didn't know at the time, but this would be my last live demonstration for a while, due to the COVID-19 school closures.  School was closed the following Monday, and my work from home began.  Since I could no longer deliver my demonstrations in the schools, Green Our Planet found a solution by creating a Virtual Academy to bring nutrition and garden lessons to students.  One of my first virtual nutrition-cooking presentations was the same recipe I made at Lewis Rowe Elementary...Swiss Chard wraps with Red Bell Pepper Hummus!

Before I plan my recipes that I will present to the students, I get a list of items that are growing in the garden. There was an abundance of Swiss Chard at Lewis Rowe, so that is the main ingredient that I focused my recipe on.

Check out my video presentation here: youtu.be/88U5zrf1dp4

Hummus is an easy and healthy snack to make! Try different varieties, such as, red beet hummus, pumpkin hummus, carrot hummus, garden hummus...Yes, I love hummus! Check out more hummus recipes and other snack ideas  below.
